More on how it works
Breathing is an involuntary, automatic function that reflects our general state of arousal. We can, however, learn to control our breathing to help control our state of arousal. The breathing centres in the brain have a strong relationship with the arousal centers. Constant, steady breathing promotes relaxation. It is almost impossible to be tense and have slow, relaxed, and deep breaths.
Muscle tension is one of the most common stress responses. The EOSS neuromuscular exercises involve muscle relaxation techniques designed to reduce tension levels within the body. The exercises involve learning how to feel the difference between tension and relaxation. This helps create a sense of mental relaxation as well as physical relaxation.
